Radio Interview with The Music Zoo now on Mixcloud

Earlier this week, I did an interview with Dub Pete, host of the The Music Zoo on the Incapable Staircase online radio station, where I talked about my music, composing, production, and much more.

The show went out live at 9.30pm on Tuesday September 27th, 2022, on the Incapable Staircase online radio station and Pete played a few of my songs and remixes. He asked me all about how and when I started out making music (in the 1980s!) and my first synth (Jen SX1000), how I started doing the official remixes for bands like Pitch Black (thanks to The Only Michael), and my go-to VST plugin (TAL Dub Delay). We talked about some of the things I’ve done music-wise over the years, and some of the highlights of my musical “career”. We also talked about how I compose my songs and the production techniques I use.

I was a little bit nervous and apprehensive about doing a radio interview, especially as the last one I did was full of ums and errs!

I thought that there wouldn’t be much to talk about for 90 minutes, minus time for a few of my songs and remixes, but the time went really quickly and we could have talked for longer!

You can listen to the interview on Mixcloud, if you missed it live or use the player on this page. Don’t forget to leave a comment, and share the link to the player with your friends and followers. Share it on socials too!

I’d like to thank Dub Pete for inviting me onto his show and for being a great host.

On the radio (again!)

Trust the Doc on Exile FM

My new song “Never Let You Go” will be featured on the Trust the Doc radio show on Exile FM at 8pm (UK time) this coming Wednesday August 24. I’m really honoured to have this track played. It’s a shortened radio edit version of the song, so is less than 3 minutes long!

Neil March, who hosts the Trust the Doc radio show, is one of many champions of independent, upcoming musicians and bands. He has been really complimentary about Never Let You Go, and really supportive about my music. The video for the song has already been played on his Trust the Doc TV, Neil’s monthly live show on Youtube. You can check that out here if you haven’t seen it.

Please tune in and listen to the song on Trust the Doc, and listen to the many other great bands and artists who will be on the show.

Lately, I’ve Been Thinking it’s a New Age

Can you hear me?

The Rain is Falling.

Lately, I’ve been thinking…..

It’s a New Age.

New Age

These are some of the lyrics from “New Age”, by Australian singer/songwriter “Rob V.” I knew Rob’s music through a family connection (we’re sort of related) and was interested to hear his new album “Illusions” when it was released in late 2020. A lockdown album, written and produced in a remote setting in Western Australia.

Rob’s from Australia. He has been been a touring musician for over 20 years, known predominately for his guitar work with 43Cambridge & lead vocals/guitar in Dig The Dust. Although he has 6 original albums under his belt, the album ‘Illusions’ is his debut solo release.

Having remixed a song by a band in Australia (Ivory Towers by Deep Fried Dub) amongst the many other official remixes I’ve done – I thought that one or two songs on “Illusions” were sonically similar to the “Mistrust” swirly, downtempo sound, and would maybe suit a “Mistrust remix”.

I contacted Rob about the idea of a remix, and we first began shooting ideas via email mid-year in 2021 and it was obvious to both of us that this was a good fit. Rob.V was keen for me to take the reigns and creatively take it to another place. I worked on the track for probably longer than I normally do on a remix, and couldn’t quiet get my ideas to fit. However, in late September, it all seemed to fit together. The result has led to what can be described by what Rob calls a “cool British dub/reggae/downbeat spin on the original moody lockdown track”.
